This is Troy from Southern California. He is a 9 year old golden retriever that was found on Craigslist at the age of 6. The ad read: “5 year old Golden Retriever needs a home.. please call.” It had no photo, and no reason why. Troy went to his “furever home” that night with his new owner.
Troy’s favorite treats are anything sweet potato or peanut butter! His human says “His favorite thing in the world to do is swim. I have to force him to stop or he would literally go for hours. He doesn’t even need anything to chase he just wants to swim, but his favorite thing to retrieve is definitely a stick”
Like most goldens, Troy likes to bring you things when you come home, or to company when they arrive – “One of Troy’s quirks I guess would be he HAS to put something in his mouth when I get home, or when someone comes over. His usual choice is the remote control that sits on the coffee table. If that’s not there he goes for a shoe, a water bottle, a dish towel, or anything he can find that isn’t an actual dog bone or toy.” (Tucker is the same way, thankfully he hasn’t tried it with the remote yet, its usually shoes or bones!)
Unfortunately, “Troy was diagnosed with lymphoma Aug 2013. He went into remission after 6 chemo treatments. He still has 3 months left of chemo but so far so good. He’s had only positive reactions!” You can follow his updates or donate to his treatments here: http://www.gofundme.com/TTreatments
The Daily Golden’s Golden Retriever of the Month is Keisel, from sunny Florida, who happens to be celebrating his first birthday today! (all photos shared from Keisel’s Facebook Page with permission) Stop by and tell him Happy Birthday!
As you can see, things got a little crazy at the party…
Keisel has some of the cutest puppy pictures!!! Please forgive me for over sharing!
Ok, that’s enough!
Keisel lives close to his mom, and his brother Keegan, and often visits them. This is (left) brother Keegan, Keisel, Mishca, and mom Miley. What a good looking family!
Keisel has already earned his CGC, and is no stranger to the show ring. He is working towards his championship.
Two of Keisel’s favorite activities are chasing balls…
and swimming, especially with his brother Keegan. (Keisel is the one in front!)
This past weekend, Keisel got together with his mom and siblings to enjoy some beach time! (left to right, Miley, Riley, Keisel and Keegan!)
Keisel loves to snuggle everyone, and will fall asleep just about anywhere, even with a toy still in his mouth!
I have a hunch he may be a Steelers fan.
Follow Keisel on his Facebook Page to check out more adorable photos and videos of this handsome boy as he grows! He is destined for greatness! Happy Birthday Keisel!
The Daily Golden usually has a Golden Retriever of the Month. This month, I have selected two. Spencer, 4 and his neice Penny, 1, live together with their cat Shelby in Holliston, Massachusetts. Their day often includes a trip to their “human’s” office, a photography studio, where they are often forced into hard labor, posing for photographs…
While Spencer is very calm and docile, Penny is quite the opposite, she is so excitable but she tries so hard to contain herself. She often sits and almost vibrates.
I have always admired the beautiful photos on Spencer and Penny’s Facebook page, but the night I saw the video of them sitting on the stairs waving goodnight, I fell in love with these beautiful goldens!
Another one of my favorite things about this pair is the fact that the love to carry things in their mouths…even food!
Their owner says “They both love to carry things and on 90% of their walks they are carrying a frisbee, stick or ball. They both retrieve the mail, carry my lunch into the studio, and bags of pastries from the coffee shop while I carry the coffees. All I have to say is pick it up and point. Spencer knows his left from his right. Penny brings things to the recycle bin and Spencer is trained to get his leash. Both carry an umbrella on our walk if there is chance of rain (unopened of course) They love every treat but carrots please them and me! They both get to clean the yogurt cup every morning as morning ritual and treat.”
A cute video of Spencer getting the mail….
Spencer and Penny’s owner says “Around lunch time every day Spencer grabs his frisbee and brings it to me and holds it in his mouth until I take him out to play. Penny likes a big bouncy ball and although she does retrieve it, she prefers to run around with it in her mouth.”
” Penny loves every creature equally from humans to frogs. Twice she has brought in a live frog and dropped it in our house much to my wife’s dismay. She is very much in love with her cat friend Shelby. She licks the cats head and cuddles with her constantly and of course an occasional chase that involves a 3 second tour of the entire house. The cat loves it!”
Spencer and Penny are from Massachusetts, so they like to demonstrate their love for Boston in many ways.
First, there was this beautiful photo posted on their Facebook page after the Boston Marathon tragedy..
And they are also avid Red Socks fans!! Go Sox!
After speaking with Spencer and Penny’s owner, I discovered that one the viral golden retriever photos I often come across belongs to him, and is a picture of Spencer holding a paper that says “I Will Love You Forever !!”
Here’s the cool part! The Henry Studio, (that’s S & P’s owner) offers mugs, calendars, mouse-pads etc with this print, as well as other beautiful prints of his dogs. Check out their Etsy page AllsGolden
To see more beautiful photos and cute videos of these two, go “like” their Facebook page, and tell ’em The Daily Golden sent you! 🙂
Our golden retriever of the month for September, 2013 is Riley from Southern California. He has is own Facebook page “The Adventures of Riley” that I very much enjoy. Riley will be turning one year old on September 28th.
This sweet little guy’s favorite activity is to run and play with other dogs. Riley’s human says “ Riley is the friendliest dog you’ll meet, but he won’t give you the time of day if you have a dog with you. His only desire is to meet your dog, and then play with him.”
Riley likes his Chuckit toys, but couldn’t help himself when it came to the launcher…(Tucker’s looks the same way!)
Our Golden Retriever of the Month for August is Sugar! Sugar turns 12 today! She is a golden retriever from Illinois who is the star of her own website Sugar The Golden Retriever – GoldenWoofs. This blog has been in the works since 2008. It is one of the top golden retriever blogs on the net.
If you are a blogger, join Sugar’s Blog Hop Barkday Party. There are even prizes to be won! Here’s the badge to add to your post:
Sugar is the star of a children’s book called Sugar’s Furry Friend. It’s about Sugar’s friendship with a backyard chipmunk, Fred. Click here for details!
One of my favorite things about Sugar’s website is the treat recipes! “Tasty Tuesdays” are some of their more popular posts. Probably because golden retrievers LOVE anything to do with food!
Sugar’s favorite treat is BANANA! Especially when it is stuffed in a Kong. She can even balance them on her head!
Last year, Sugar lived in Hawaii. It was the best time of her life.
Sugar is famous for wearing her purple PAWS because of her allergies. She explains it here.
If you would like to wish Sugar a happy 12th barkday, please visit her Facebook Page or Twitter and tell her The Daily Golden sent you!
Introducing “Barney” our Golden Retriever of the Month for July 2013. Barney is 8 years old enjoys basking in the sun at his home in New Zealand.
Barney was born in Wales and has done his share of travelling. He even has his own passport!
Barney loves the ocean and swimming. And sticks! Little ones….
and big ones!
Barney can often be seen rolling on his back.
Barney enjoys playing in the sand, but doesn’t enjoy the bath afterwards!
Here’s what Barney’s human Samantha says about him:
“His favorite food is garlic bread and cat biscuits and he loves giving me hugs when I come home from university. He never barks, apart from when he sees people getting hugs as he wants hugs too! He likes to play tug with his rope toys and fetch with balls. Whenever he sees me he grins and crinkles his nose and makes cute growly noises like a laugh! I love Barney more than anything.”
Here’s a photo of Barney being groomed in the sunshine on his favorite bench, along with his “human” Samantha.
Barney is recovering from an injury that left him unable to walk for a few months so he has been a little sad. Hope you are feeling better soon Barney!!
You can see more of Barney on his new Facebook Page. Stop by and send your well wishes, and tell him The Daily Golden sent you!
Like Comfort Dog “Prince”, Goldeny also appeared in her “sister’s” school Yearbook.
Goldeny’s favorite toys are squeaky toys…and socks!
This pretty girl was featured in American Dog Magazine “Super Dog Beauty Pageant” She was 49th place out of over 350 entries.and also in a feature entitled “Famous Dogs on Facebook with Friends”
Goldeny, in typical golden fashion, also loves to visit the beach!
Her “human sister” has been working with her learning tricks. Goldeny participated in “Dog Idol” in “El Morro Pet Fest” activity and won 2nd place in the trick and obedience category.earlier this year. She is also an agility student!
Here’s a video of Goldeny doing tricks with her human. It starts out with basic stuff, but by the end, her tricks will amaze you!
Great job! Good luck to you Fabiola and Goldeny, in all your endeavors!
Denali is an 11 year old golden retriever from Ohio who graces the cover of many greeting cards. Denali’s owner, photographer Madalyn Ruggiero says he loves jumping up on the table and sits and waits to be adorned in the day’s costume. Some days, he’s not in the mood and she has to work around his schedule.
Madelyn and Denali have appeared in the local newspapers on many occasions, and even on the local news.
Denali loves peanut butter, doggie ice cream, and beef sticks. He doesn’t have a particular favorite toy, but is obsessed with snow and loves making snow angels. He sleeps in his mom’s room at night and isn’t afraid of fireworks or thunder.
Denali was recently diagnosed with nasal cancer. Madalyn explains:
“Last fall Denali started having lots of thick mucus coming out of his nose.. I took him almost every other week to the doctor. In the end of October the mucus turned into blood and that scared me. My doctor recommended I take him for a biopsy. I took him to Michigan State Vet School for a biopsy. Denali had some problems during the biopsy and was loosing a lot of blood. After they got him stabilized they found out he had cancer. The tumor in his noses was blocking air-flow completely on one side and was starting to go to the other. A friend suggested I take Denali to Ohio State University Vet Medical center and that’s where I met Dr Cheryl London. She’s a well know oncologist who was doing a nasal cancer study. Thankfully, she gave me hope and Denali is has been enrolled in the program since last November.”
Denali has a new little brother named Sir Wilbur who has given him a new zest for life.
Together they are making some pretty cool greeting cards and living the life! Did I mention they like watermelon?
and car rides?
You can check out their Blog or Facebook Page to follow their story. I urge you to help out this golden-loving artist by purchasing a card or two. They are very reasonable and you will have them on hand for that last minute occasion!
Here are my cards that I received from Madalyn. (who needs to show me how to take a decent picture!)
One thing is for sure – Madalyn has found her true calling with her “subjects” and is getting double golden love at the same time. I wish her and the boys the best of luck. Belly rubs and kisses to Denali and Sir Wilbur.
