When the temperature dips down like it has done lately, I find that it becomes that little bit harder to enjoy time outside. On bitter cold days like today, warm clothing doesn’t seem to do much to stave off the chill, and the icy wind feels as though it is wrenching the energy right from your body.

I feel for our new puppy Oliver as he deals with the frigid air while learning the ropes of potty training. On that note, he’s doing great… what a smart puppy! Neither…

Wayward Dogs

Luke has a confession.

You’d never guess it from his super sweet golden retriever face, but the old, red dog has a problem. He’s a cleptomaniac.

Leave a loaf of bread, a glass bowl full of buffalo meat or even a bag of avocados too close to the edge of our really tall counters, and he’ll swipe it.

His scavenging isn’t limited to food. He regularly raids the bathroom for loose rolls of toilet paper (or their empty tubes) that he can shred and strew all over the house.

This week, he got into the Thanksgiving trash bag. Zach said he noticed something was up when he saw Scooby the elderpin chasing the golden retriever around the yard. Luke had a mouthful of turkey carcass.

Apparently, Luke and former foster dog Minnie are still birds of a feather. Her mom tells me Minnie waited two days before ripping into the…

Marine Shoots, Kills Neighbors’ Golden Retriever

Maysville, NC – On Monday November 26th, Lynn Sumner reported to the Onslow County Deputies that her dog had been shot.

Sierra

Sierra was a sweet 6 1/2 year old golden retriever who was allegedly shot by her neighbor, Marine Chris Goodson, 24 yrs.

Neighbors in the area testified that the dog was a gentle dog, but another neighbor said the dog lunged at Goodson.

Alan Davis, director of Onslow County Animal Services reports that when deputies arrived on the scene, they saw Goodman with the dog in the back of a truck, taking it into the woods to dump him.

The incident is still under investigation.

Another Free Audiobook For Your Golden Retriever – Yalu and The Puppy Room

Yalu and The Puppy Room is a story about a 6 week old golden retriever living in a shelter waiting for her forever home.  There are some parts that are rather sad, when all of the other dogs, including Yalu’s brothers and sisters, are getting adopted, but Yalu eventually finds her perfect forever home, with lots and lots of grass!   The golden retriever tells the story, so its extra cute to play for your dog!

Here’s the free audiobook on YouTube.

Tucker and I give the story two thumbs up! (pretend Tucker has thumbs, okay!)

The story is written by Brian T Yates and  and is based on the real story of how his dog chose their family.  Brian is working on his next book Yalu and the Stinky Stink – where Yalu gets sprayed by, you guessed it – a skunk.

Yalu The Puppy Dog is a great site for kids with puzzles and pictures of Yalu.  (those puzzles come in 80 piece classic too, fur us grown ups 😉 )

Golden Video Of The Week – Golden Retriever Fits Four Tennis Balls In Mouth

Goldens were bred to carry stuff in their mouths, and have very big loose lips.  Watch Brunson put 4 tennis balls in his mouth…eventually!

“Jenga” Golden Retriever – Carson!

In 2011, Carson the Golden Retriever became a YouTube sensation and has been featured in Huffington Post, on Mother Nature Network and ABC News.  Lara Spencer even gave him a shoutout on Good Morning America.

Here he is balancing 50 dog treats on his nose.  What a good boy!

I don’t know why I bother reading the comments on these YouTube videos (I was trying to figure out the dogs’ name) but I was amazed at all the idiots who call this “animal cruelty”  The dog clearly loves this!

Carson has other videos on his YouTube Channel where he balances a treat on a straw, on his nose and paws, and while lying on his back!

Introducing “Wilco” A new internet sensation for sure!
